Recast changes the order of a field so there is more for the rest of the chain to act on. It does not invent detail that was never captured — nothing can — but it does let you shape how what is there gets cast into the higher orders.
That shaping is the point. A 1st-order recording raised to 5th is still a 1st-order recording; what changes is whether it sits in a 5th-order session cleanly or smears, and how the energy is distributed as it goes up.
